Ventuno's Back Bar

Trellis vines and strung lights form the perfect backdrop for those seasonal sippers

By Catherine Smart

Tucked behind the Atheneum you’ll find Back Bar, the hip little sister of Italian restaurant Ventuno and Nantucket’s best spot to sip Italian wines. If you’re more in the mood for cocktails, try the vacation-y Baci di Miele with plantation rum, ginger, citrus, and soda; or the La Salvavita, a lively gin and grapefruit number; or sip a classic Aperol Spritz through a festive orange paper straw. There are really no wrong answers on this drink list. Bonus: Back Bar is one of the most Instagrammable spots on the island. If you don’t snap your drink on the crowded cement bar, surrounded by cheery red and green barstools, did that lovely night under the trellis even happen?

If you’re hankering for bar bites, order the crisp Fritto Misto with local calamari, or the Olive Ascolane: fried Castelvetrano olives stuffed with pork sausage.
