The Box bills itself as “Internationally Infamous” on its website, and we can’t think of a more apt description. This mid-island music venue (yeah, you’re going to want to take a cab), hosts local bands as well as nationally recognized acts, and is the island’s seven-days-a-week, 365-days-year go-to spot for dancing, drinking, and debauchery. There’s no food, but there are 10 TVs, seven dartboards, three pool tables, ping-pong, and an efficient bar serving strong libations and cheap beer. If you plan to visit The Box, here’s some advice: Check your pretense at the door, prepare to smell like an ashtray if you venture anywhere near the smoking porch, and wear dancing shoes that you don’t mind getting soaked in Bud Light. You’ll be glad you went, even though you’ll pay for it tomorrow.
