Good food and great drinks in Winooski.

By Molly McDonough

Winooski is kind of like the Somerville of Burlington. A calmer respite from the college-town scene and throngs of tourists, the once-industrial city bordering Burlington has seen a steady flow of late-20- and early-30-somethings moving in recently, and good food has followed them. Misery Loves Co. feels like the hub, a beloved space with great drinks, stellar brunch, and a farm-to-table dinner menu that changes with the seasons.

Come here from 2 to 5 p.m. on weekdays to sip some Vermont’s best cocktails—we love the egg-white-infused MLC Margarita and the boozy gin-and-fernet-based Hanky Panky—alongside dollar oysters, charcuterie plates, and a perfect Steak Tartare. Stay for dinner to sample hyper-seasonal dishes made with produce from the restaurant’s own farm on a Lake Champlain island. And come back for brunch on the weekend for an MLC Benedict and what’s been voted Burlington’s best Bloody Mary. TBH, if you’re staying in Winooski, you don’t even really need to leave.

  • Must Have

Fried Chicken

Cooked to a perfect crisp and served with honey butter, this half-chicken meal served family style feeds two. Pick two seasonal veggie side dishes (think tomatillos, radishes, or flowers) to go with it.
