Pizzeria Gemelle

Neapolitan pizza from the pros at Ventuno.

By Catherine Smart

It’s hard to overstate the deliciousness of Gemelle’s Neapolitan-style pizza. The mozzarella cheese is made in-house, the oven was imported from Italy and rebuilt brick-by-brick, and it’s the kid-sister spot to Italian heavyweight Ventuno. Of course the pizza is perfect. Choose a classic Margherita or spring for an inventive specialty like the ‘Hog, made with local clams, bacon, spring onions, potato, and pecorino. But you really need to eat your way through the whole tightly edited menu, because the kale Caesar and Aperol Spritz round things out nicely, and the Bomboloncini—that chocolate-filled donut hole topped with crispy caramel—is, well, the bomb.

  • Must Have

Annabella

House-made mozzarella, paper-thin guanciale, black truffles, and a runny egg. We actually ordered this by mistake and consider it divine intervention of the umami gods.

  • Insider Tip

Gemelle has no phone and doesn’t take reservations, so order online and scarf this down on a sunny park bench. The beach is good too, but these pies are best fresh out of the screaming-hot oven.
