Walking on Sunshine · Temple Bar

There’s nothing wrong with the Moscow Mule. But after draining so many of those copper mugs, you might feel a bit blasé about the classic vodka-ginger beer cocktail.

Fortunately, it’s gotten a reboot of sorts at Cambridge’s Temple Bar in the form of Walking on Sunshine. Think of this drink as the Moscow Mule’s more interesting, worldly cousin: Temple’s bartenders begin with a base of vodka, then add cherry-based Luxardo Maraschino liqueur and swap out ginger beer for a ginger- and berry- flavored kombucha.

It’s just as refreshing as any Mule, but it features a fruitier flavor profile owing to the cherry liqueur and the kombucha, which still adds a jolt of ginger to the mix.

In flavor and character, Walking on Sunshine is just funky enough to stand out from the mean. But its simplicity ensures that it won’t disappoint anyone looking for an uncomplicated and rejuvenating pick-me-up.

“I don’t want to mess with [vodka drinks] too much, because your typical vodka drinker isn’t looking for bitter and crazy ingredients,” says bar manager Jenn Harvey.
