Where to Buy Bread in Boston During the COVID-19 Shutdown

Bondir

We tip our hats to at-home bakers, but not everyone is ready to make a sourdough starter on their own. Luckily, some of our favorite Boston restaurants and bakeries are finding new ways to safely connect carb-lovers with fresh sourdough loaves, croissants, and other baked treats through pick-up and takeout.

Bondir
In addition to prepared foods, Bondir is selling sourdough loaves; check the rotating menu for the latest flavors. You can also order six-packs of Croissants in varieties like butter, chocolate, and Gruyère with coppa and beer mustard. Orders can be picked up between 2 and 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

The Butcher Shop
On select days each week, The Butcher Shop is offering classics from The Barbara Lynch Collective to-go—including bread. While menus change weekly, expect loaves of Focaccia as well as other baked treats like Cannoli and Sticky Buns.

Fox & the Knife
As part of their takeout menu offered between 4 and 8 p.m., Fox & the Knife is selling their warm Focaccia with melty Taleggio cheese. It’s a ready-to-eat dish rather than a loaf to use later, but it’s also the kind of comfort food we need right now.

Hi-Rise Bread Company
Hi-Rise Bread Company continues to offer daily curbside pick-up from its Observatory Hill location. In addition to salads and sandwiches, you can pick up many of their classic breads including Baguette, Challah, Nordic Rye, Potato Loaf, and Luce (their multigrain sourdough).

Pammy’s
The takeout menu that Pammy’s offers between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday includes a freshly baked House Pugliese Sourdough Loaf. In addition to giving you something to mop up takeout containers of Chicken Parm with, sales of the bread will support unemployed staff and No Kid Hungry.

Sarma
Sarma is offering takeout from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and its daily changing menu features a “Pide” section featuring snacks and breads. While offerings vary, you might catch Spicy Olive Bread, French Bread, or Black Sea Cornbread with feta, jalapeño, and cilantro.
