Stonecutter Spirits Highball Social

Come to sample Vermont-made spirits; stay for a pizza-and-cocktail soirée.

By Molly McDonough

In the foothills of the Green Mountains about 45 minutes south of Burlington, two thirtysomethings are distilling and barrel-aging their own gin and whiskey. If you pass through Middlebury, you can visit their distillery, Stonecutter Spirits—or you can swing by this bar in Burlington, which doubles as Stonecutter’s tasting room and bottle shop, to sample the Vermont-made booze.

You’ll be tempted to stay a while. The airy indoor space (and sunny patio) offer plenty of room to while away the evening sipping highballs: fizzy cocktails made with gin or whiskey dispensed from a unique tap system. You can also sip on Stonecutter Spirits via flights, classic drinks, and an inventive menu of cocktails with Mean Girls-inspired names. Bonus: Pies from next-door neighbor Folino’s Wood Fired Pizza can be ordered directly from Highball Social’s servers. Once you’ve stayed for dinner, you might as well order a slice of the show-stopping Rainbow Cake.
