Liar’s Bench Beer Company

Sip sessions aplenty in this laid-back brewpub.

By Catherine Smart

Some of Portsmouth’s best beer drinking occurs on the outskirts of downtown, in an old plumbing supply warehouse that still looks the part. Liars Bench is a fantasy day-job-made-true by Dane Nielsen and Dagan Migirditch, former UNH roommates. The brewery serves up small-batch craft brews like the Love Duck, a fruity American pale ale; and John Grady Kölsch, a biscuity, floral German-style ale named for one of Cormack McCarthy’s most famous protagonists. Come by on a sunny day when the garage doors are flung open, and settle in with good friends, a cold flight, and snappy bratwurst.

Low-ABV brews are a focus here, so ask your server to point you in the direction of sessionables and sample away.
